Tom cruise vows to keep making movies past 100 as mission: impossible nears its end

Published on: May 19, 2025 5:51 PM

Hollywood legend Tom Cruise has confirmed that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will mark the end of his journey as Ethan Hunt, a character he has played since 1996. The announcement came during the film’s red carpet premiere in New York, where Cruise also revealed his unwavering passion for filmmaking.

At 62, Cruise shows no signs of slowing down. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s—actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.” His words highlight his deep commitment to cinema and storytelling, even beyond action-packed roles.

Reflecting on nearly 30 years with the Mission: Impossible franchise, Cruise expressed immense gratitude. “It’s been incredibly rewarding—working with different filmmakers, crews, and cultures,” he shared. “I’ve learned so much about storytelling, leadership, and life through this journey.”

When asked about the physical challenges of performing high-risk stunts, Cruise added a humorous note. “There’s a lot of pre-stunt rituals that keep me alive,” he joked, while explaining the intense preparation that goes into each sequence. His dedication to doing his own stunts remains a key element of his legacy.

The Final Reckoning, directed by longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, features a star-studded cast including Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, and Pom Klementieff. McQuarrie praised Cruise, calling him “the most giving, most game… a great teacher and a great student.”

Though Ethan Hunt’s story may be ending, Cruise’s cinematic journey is far from over. His promise to continue making movies beyond 100 shows he’s not just an action star—but a lifelong student and master of the craft.
