Relief in Iran: Citizens celebrate end of 12-day war with Israel

Published on: June 24, 2025 11:00 PM

TEHRAN – After 12 intense days of war between Iran and Israel, the announcement of a sudden ceasefire has brought visible relief and joy to the Iranian people. Citizens filled the streets of major cities on Tuesday, expressing their happiness and hope for peace.

According to Reuters, Israel’s aerial bombings had shaken Iranian cities for nearly two weeks. The attacks led to the deaths of hundreds and forced many families to flee their homes, seeking shelter in safer places. The abrupt ceasefire declaration brought a wave of emotional calm across the country.

In Tehran, residents say the truce brings not only peace of mind but also a return to normal life, including clean-up operations, reopened shops, and less fear of further escalation. The break in violence also gives people hope that a long war may have been avoided.

Many who had left their homes during the airstrikes are now returning. They are relieved to escape the financial and emotional burden of temporary housing and displacement. For families forced to live with relatives or pay expensive rents elsewhere, the ceasefire feels like a second chance.

A 40-year-old woman from Shiraz, identified only as Shima, said, “I’m deeply happy the war has stopped. Now we can finally live in peace again.” She added, “This was an unnecessary war. Ordinary people had to pay for the decisions made by those in power.”
