Pakistan to assume UN security council presidency next month

Published on: June 26, 2025 12:50 PM

Pakistan is set to take over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council next month, marking a significant moment for the country on the global diplomatic stage. Ambassador Munir Akram informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres about Pakistan’s agenda and priorities during its upcoming leadership of the Council.

During their meeting, Ambassador Akram highlighted key global issues, including the worsening situation in the Middle East, and developments across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He also emphasized the role of UN peacekeeping missions in promoting global peace and the Security Council’s core objectives.

Moreover, Ambassador Akram stressed the need for peaceful solutions to conflicts and stronger cooperation among member states to ensure international peace and security. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in addressing global challenges through dialogue and diplomacy.

Pakistan has assured that its presidency will be conducted in an open, transparent, and consultative manner. This approach aims to encourage trust, collaboration, and active participation from all member states during its term.

This will be a crucial opportunity for Pakistan to highlight its stance on international issues, contribute to key discussions, and lead efforts toward peaceful conflict resolution. The presidency rotates monthly among the 15 member states of the Security Council, and Pakistan’s turn is being viewed as a moment of diplomatic importance.

As global tensions continue to rise in various regions, all eyes will be on how Pakistan leads the Council and navigates complex international affairs during its month-long presidency.
