Sharjeel Memon promises new era of development for Sindh

Published on: July 3, 2025 3:35 PM

KARACHI – Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government is committed to transforming the lives of the people in the coming years. He said the government will bridge the development gap between rural and urban areas by opening new doors of progress.

Speaking about the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) efforts, Memon stated that the party is delivering on its promises. He emphasized that their ultimate goal is to build an empowered, prosperous, and sustainable Sindh.

According to Memon, 481 new development projects will be launched in the 2025–2026 fiscal year. He revealed that over 400,000 households are already being provided with solar energy systems, which will help reduce electricity shortages, lower power bills, and curb environmental pollution.

He added that government buildings, including hospitals, schools, and offices, are being gradually converted to solar energy to cut power costs. He also highlighted that hospital upgrades worth Rs. 1.58 billion are underway in Karachi, while a new Rs. 1.43 billion medical complex is planned near the National Highway. A nursing and paramedical institute will soon be established in Islamkot.

Moreover, the minister mentioned that infrastructure projects worth billions have started in Ghotki, Qambar, and Gadani. A desalination plant will be installed in Karachi to convert seawater into drinkable water, with the city’s first 5 MGD desalination plant to be launched under a public-private partnership.

Sharjeel Memon also announced that Rs. 4.29 billion will be spent on lining the Nara Canal to improve irrigation, and Rs. 330 million will go toward drainage projects. Additionally, a 17-storey Science and Technology Park is being built at NED University with Kuwait’s financial support. The park will focus on artificial intelligence, IT, and scientific research.

Lastly, he said 13 major projects worth $3.2 billion are also in progress with World Bank support. These projects cover areas like BRT, solar energy, urban mobility, flood resilience, clean water, education, and agriculture.
