Punjab sets new standard with safe and orderly muharram processions

Published on: July 12, 2025 2:43 PM

LAHORE: The Punjab government received wide praise for its excellent management of Muharram processions and majalis this year. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari held a meeting with procession license holders and Peace Committee members, who expressed deep gratitude for the smooth, peaceful, and secure arrangements made by the authorities.

Shia religious scholars warmly thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her personal supervision and hands-on role in overseeing the security and logistical arrangements throughout the holy month. The Shia Ulema Council Punjab presented Minister Azma Bokhari with the prestigious “Imam Hussain Award” in recognition of the government’s outstanding administrative performance during Muharram. Punjab Information Secretary Tahir Raza Hamdani also participated in the meeting.

Minister Bokhari said the organisers’ satisfaction was clear proof of the government’s success in managing a large number of processions and majalis without any incidents. She highlighted that the Chief Minister monitored preparations closely, ensuring adequate police deployment, traffic management, and emergency services. These efforts made Punjab stand out nationally for its orderly observance of Muharram.

She further emphasized that the government’s dedication to public safety and religious harmony is unwavering. The provincial administration remained active in the field, addressing issues promptly, and working closely with community leaders to maintain peace and discipline during the month. This strong partnership was key to the positive outcome.

The visiting delegation included prominent Shia scholars and community figures such as Allama Kazim Raza Naqvi, Shabih Shirazi, Qasim Ali (Focal Person), Yousuf Johari, and others. Their visit not only acknowledged the government’s efforts but also strengthened communal trust and cooperation, ensuring continued harmony in future religious events.
