Flood havoc in Chakwal: Roads destroyed, power out

Published on: July 19, 2025 4:24 PM

Chakwal district suffered heavy damage when monsoon rains dropped about 450 mm of rainfall. As a result, 32 roads were completely washed away, and several bridges were swept away by powerful flash floods.

Numerous communities became isolated as roads vanished. Emergency crews dispatched heavy machinery and earth-moving equipment to clear landslides and reopen main routes. One key road—from Kallar Kahar to Chakwal—was blocked by a large landslide and has recently been reopened.

The region’s electricity network failed, leaving many households without power. WAPDA officials launched restoration efforts immediately and are working to restore grid connections across the district.

Local authorities also reported flooded rivers and damaged roads in surrounding villages. Many residents remain displaced or unable to access essential services. Efforts to restore infrastructure are currently underway.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will visit Chakwal today. She plans to review damage assessments, coordinate relief operations, and ensure that emergency support reaches affected communities promptly.
