PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department has issued a safety advisory for tourists and locals visiting the province’s scenic areas, warning of potential flash floods from July 21 to 29.
According to the advisory, tourists are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel and must call the 1422 helpline before heading to any tourist destination. The department stressed caution due to the increased risk of landslides and flash flooding in popular mountainous areas.
Tourism Secretary Dr. Abdul Samad urged visitors to stay away from riverbanks and avoid dangerous or unstable routes. He added that 500 tourists were recently rescued by the Kaghan Development Authority after a cloudburst triggered a landslide, blocking the road to Lake Saiful Malook.
Despite the scenic beauty attracting thousands each summer, the monsoon season often brings sudden weather changes and unpredictable hazards. The advisory is part of the provincial government’s efforts to prevent accidents and ensure tourist safety during the rainy season.
Authorities have also mobilized rescue teams and are closely monitoring weather conditions. Tourists are encouraged to follow official updates and avoid putting themselves or rescuers at risk.
