New Polio case in Tank raises Pakistan’s total to 24

Published on: September 1, 2025 3:58 PM

A new polio case has been confirmed in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) reported that the affected child is a 20-month-old girl. The case was verified by the polio laboratory at the National Institute of Health. This brings the total number of polio cases in Pakistan to 24 for the year 2025. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread.

Following the confirmation, NEOC urged parents to cooperate fully with polio vaccination teams. They stressed the importance of allowing vaccinators access whenever they visit homes. Officials reminded parents that polio drops are essential for children under five years old. Moreover, they encouraged timely completion of all vaccinations to protect against polio and other diseases. The health bodies emphasize that these measures save children from permanent disabilities.

Officials highlighted that just two doses of the polio vaccine can provide lifelong protection. They urged families not to delay or skip vaccination sessions. Polio remains a threat in some parts of Pakistan despite ongoing efforts. Previously, polio cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces this year. This shows the virus is still active in the country.

Pakistan remains one of the few countries where polio still exists. The government and health agencies are working hard to eradicate it completely. However, public cooperation is crucial for success. Vaccination campaigns must reach every child to stop the virus’s spread. Continued awareness and action remain key to ending polio in Pakistan.

The new case in Tank is a serious reminder of polio’s threat. Authorities call on all parents to protect their children with vaccines. This fight requires unity between health workers, families, and communities. With strong efforts and support, Pakistan can achieve a polio-free future. Everyone’s role is vital in this important mission.
