Nominations for KP CM election will be received today

PESHAWAR — The process to elect a new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is underway after the formal resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur was confirmed by the Governor House on Saturday.

According to the Assembly Secretariat, nomination papers can be submitted until 3:00 PM today (Sunday), while scrutiny will take place at 4:00 PM. A final list of candidates will be released by 5:00 PM, and voting will be held Monday morning (October 13) through a show of hands.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Sohail Afridi, a former Insaf Students Federation (ISF) leader, for the top provincial post. Afridi, currently serving his first term as MPA from PK-70 (Khyber district), is also a member of PTI’s central executive committee.

PTI dropped plans for a no-confidence motion against Gandapur after his resignation was confirmed. The Governor House stated that the resignation, handwritten by Gandapur and delivered by adviser Brig (R) Musaddiq Abbasi, was received at 2:30 PM on Saturday and is being processed under constitutional procedure.

With Afridi’s nomination, PTI signals a generational and ideological shift in its KP leadership — from veteran political firebrand Gandapur to a younger face shaped by the party’s student wing.
