Veteran PPP Leader Agha Siraj Durrani Laid to Rest in Shikarpur

Murad, PPP's provincial leadership attend funeral prayers of Agha Siraj Durrani

SHIKARPUR: The funeral prayers of veteran Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani were offered in his ancestral town of Garhi Yaseen, Shikarpur, on Wednesday night, ARY News reported.

A large number of political leaders, party members, and locals attended the funeral to pay their final respects to the seasoned politician. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, along with several provincial ministers and lawmakers, was present at the funeral. Among the notable attendees were Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Saeed Ghani, Nisar Khuhro, and Imtiaz Sheikh.

In addition to political leaders, a significant number of tribal elders from Sindh and Balochistan also participated, reflecting Agha Siraj Durrani’s influence beyond provincial boundaries.

Earlier in the day, state television confirmed the passing of Agha Siraj Durrani, aged 74, at a private hospital in Karachi, where he had been under treatment for several days. Following his death, his body was transported to his native district of Shikarpur for burial, family sources said.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the veteran leader, describing him as a “prominent and steadfast democrat” who played a vital role in promoting democratic values and strengthening the PPP’s legacy in Sindh.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also paid tribute to Durrani’s political journey, calling him a “sincere, loyal, and principled” member of the PPP who served the province with dedication.

Agha Siraj Durrani’s passing marks the end of an era in Sindh’s political landscape, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, loyalty, and service to his party and province.
