BANNU – Police on Friday night foiled a terrorist attempt to target a check post with an explosive-laden rickshaw in Bannu, ARY News reported.

According to police officials, the incident took place near the Muzanga check post in the limits of the Hawiadki police station. The rickshaw driver ignored police warnings to stop, prompting officers to open fire.

The rickshaw, packed with explosives, exploded after being hit by police bullets. The loud blast was heard across the area. Police said the explosion could have caused massive casualties if the rickshaw had reached the post. This attempted attack follows intensified counterterrorism operations by Pakistani security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the past four days, at least 94 militants linked to the Afghan Taliban’s Khwarij network have been killed in security operations. During an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan’s Tang Kalli and Datta Khel areas on October 16, six terrorists — including commander Mahboob — were killed.

Security sources said the operations are part of Pakistan’s National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate terrorism and maintain peace across the country. Forces reaffirmed their resolve to root out terrorism and bring all perpetrators to justice.
