Published on: October 20, 2025 5:24 AM

The Punjab Inter-Clubs Senior Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Championship is set to kick off in Gujranwala from October 31 to November 2, 2025, at the Mahmood Shaheed Weightlifting Club, Satellite Town. Organized by the Gujranwala Division Weightlifting Association, the event promises to be a showcase of strength, discipline, and emerging talent from across the province.

According to Sohail Javed Butt, Media Coordinator of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, the championship will feature certified weightlifters and participants of the Anti-Doping Action Plan Course, ensuring a high standard of competition and compliance. Aqeel Javed Butt, Secretary of the Punjab Weightlifting Association, informed media that new records in both men’s and women’s categories are anticipated during the event.

The championship will be overseen by Organizing Secretary Maqsood Amjad Rathore, an Asian Masters Weightlifting Gold Medalist, whose leadership adds prestige and experience to the proceedings. The Chief Guest, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Former Defence Minister, will distribute prizes and honor the athletes for their performances.

All participating clubs and coaches have been urged to finalize preparations and ensure full attendance on the scheduled dates. Beyond competition, the event aims to promote healthy activities and encourage youth engagement in weightlifting across Punjab, reinforcing the sport’s role in community development and athletic excellence, stated Sohail.
