Shehbaz, Nawaz Discuss Afghanistan Talks, TLP Crackdown, and Punjab LG Polls

Published on: October 20, 2025 10:19 AM

LAHORE — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Sunday to discuss key national and international matters, including Pakistan’s talks with Afghanistan, the crackdown on Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and preparations for upcoming local government elections in Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also attended the meeting, where PM Shehbaz briefed his elder brother on the progress of the Pakistan-Afghanistan dialogue. Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed his stance on national security, saying, “No one will be allowed to look at Pakistan with malicious intent. Pakistan is our red line, and our sons are defending it with their lives.”

The leaders also reviewed the party’s election strategy, particularly for the Punjab local government polls scheduled for December. They discussed holding the second phase of the elections first in districts where PML-N enjoys strong public support.

It was agreed that other senior party members would be consulted before finalising the list of districts for the next election phase.
