
Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar tragically took his own life in Islamabad by shooting himself early Thursday morning. According to sources, he had been under psychiatric treatment and consulted a specialist about ten days prior to the incident. The psychiatrist had advised him to avoid keeping a firearm and to continue his medication regularly. Reports indicate that Akbar had been suffering from severe depression, allegedly linked to professional stress, and had recently been diagnosed with dengue fever.

He had visited the psychiatrist with his wife and daughter and expressed frustration over his work responsibilities. The post-mortem examination conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed he was struck by a single bullet from the front. Police officials stated that Akbar shot himself using a staff pistol and succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. The reason behind his suicide remains unclear, and the IG Islamabad visited PIMS for further investigation.
