“Pakistan and Canada agreed to facilitate the export of Canadian canola to Pakistan, recognising the significant potential of Pakistan’s expanding market for this Canadian commodity,” the statement said. The move comes as Canada seeks new buyers following China’s imposition of preliminary anti-dumping duties on Canadian canola earlier this year.

The two countries also welcomed the conclusion of the first round of negotiations toward a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), led by Pakistan’s Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Canada’s Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu. The deal aims to create a stable and transparent investment environment to boost investor confidence.

Canadian officials, including MPs Rob Oliphant and Shafqat Ali, hailed the agreement as a “beneficial deal for both sides,” emphasizing the diversification of Canada’s trade relationships. Minister Anand also confirmed that Pakistan’s decision to lift restrictions on canola imports had already led to new import orders being placed.
