Netflix confirms K-Pop demon hunters 2 for 2029 release

‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ to release second sequel
LOS ANGELES – Netflix and Sony have officially greenlit a sequel to the hit animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, with the second installment scheduled for release in 2029, according to Deadline.

Creator-director Maggie Kang and co-director Chris Appelhans are set to return for the follow-up, continuing the story of internationally renowned K-Pop idols who secretly lead double lives as demon hunters. Discussions for the sequel reportedly began just days after the first film’s release in August 2025.

The original film quickly became Netflix’s most-watched movie, aided by sing-along screenings in cinemas that grossed approximately $20 million in a single weekend. Despite speculation about a potential live-action remake, Kang dismissed the idea, noting that the film’s tone and comedic elements are better suited to animation.

Appelhans echoed her sentiment, highlighting the flexibility of animation in portraying extraordinary feats, from singing and comedy to acrobatic combat sequences that would be difficult to replicate in live-action.

Fans of the original film can expect the sequel to retain the signature blend of humor, action, and K-Pop energy that made the first installment a global phenomenon.
