University Road to remain closed for water line work until December

Published on: November 10, 2025 11:48 AM

University Road in Karachi to remain closed until December 30
KARACHI – University Road, a key artery in Karachi, will be closed from Nepa Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University from November 10 to December 30 for water line installation under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Improvement Project (KWSSIP).

Officials said the closure covers the first phase of the project, which involves laying pipelines up to Federal Urdu University. The second phase will extend from Hasan Square to Nepa Chowrangi. Traffic from Nepa Chowrangi will be redirected toward Aladin Park, authorities added.

The ongoing Red Line construction on University Road has already caused major disruptions, extending commutes from minutes to hours. Residents were previously affected by a burst water line during construction, which forced them to rely on water tankers.

The area hosts three major universities—Karachi University, NED University, and Federal Urdu University. Students have reported increased accidents and difficulties crossing the road safely, urging authorities to expedite the project.

Despite assurances that work is proceeding on schedule, citizens continue to face traffic congestion, dust, and delays in daily commutes. Authorities have called for patience while the project is completed.
