National assembly approves all 59 clauses of 27th Amendment

Published on: November 12, 2025 6:22 PM

ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly completed clause-by-clause approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, passing all 59 clauses on Tuesday. The bill received overwhelming support with 233 votes in favor and only 4 against. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam opposed the amendment.

The session was chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the bill, saying it had already been discussed in the Senate. He described changes to the law and Constitution as part of an evolutionary process.

Minister Tarar confirmed that Justice Yahya Afridi would continue as Chief Justice of Pakistan. Lawmakers conducted detailed voting for each clause, showing strong support for the government’s initiative. All 59 clauses were successfully approved without major objections.

The opposition, however, criticized the amendment but failed to block its passage. The government had 233 members present, exceeding the 224 votes required to pass the bill. The smooth voting highlighted the government’s strong position in the National Assembly.
