PTI strikes back: Bushra Bibi article called “false and defamatory”

Published on: November 15, 2025 4:49 PM

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar condemned a recent Economist article on Bushra Bibi, calling it false and defamatory. He announced legal action against the publication. Gohar said the article aims to malign both Bushra Bibi and PTI founder Imran Khan. He added that the claims are fabricated and meant to provoke controversy.

Gohar said Bushra Bibi is facing imprisonment bravely and the article tries to undermine her character. He recalled previous false allegations, like the “iddat” claims, which were proven baseless. He emphasized that such tactics will not break her resolve.

Gohar condemned the timing of the article, saying it is targeted while Bushra Bibi is in jail. He suggested the piece appears sponsored and aims to spread misinformation. He vowed that courts will reveal the article’s falsehoods.

The Economist report detailed Bushra Bibi’s influence over Imran Khan’s personal and political decisions. It also described unusual rituals at Bani Gala, including throwing animal heads at graveyards and performing symbolic acts on Khan. The report claimed these events coincided with her arrival in Khan’s household.

Legal experts note that PTI’s move to challenge the article could raise debates about media freedom and accountability. Supporters of Bushra Bibi argue the report misrepresents her role, while critics say it exposes unusual practices linked to political influence.
