NAB achieves record-breaking Rs8,397bn recovery

Published on: November 16, 2025 12:15 PM

The National Accountability Bureau has posted a historic performance by recovering Rs8,397 billion in the last two and a half years, marking the largest financial recovery ever made by the institution. Moreover, officials noted that this surge demonstrates a major improvement in anti-corruption efforts across various sectors.

During this period, NAB’s recoveries increased nearly tenfold compared to its performance from 1999 to early 2023, when the bureau retrieved only Rs883 billion over 23 years. Consequently, the sharp rise reflects a significant boost in operational capacity and a stronger focus on accountability.

Officials further stated that NAB expects an additional Rs2,000 billion to be recovered by the end of this year, which would push the total amount to unprecedented levels. Additionally, the projected increase highlights the bureau’s continued momentum and expanding investigative reach.

A key part of this achievement involves the retrieval of vast tracts of government land that were misallocated through the Land Directorate, with the value of recovered plots running into trillions of rupees. Furthermore, this action demonstrates a clear commitment to protecting public property and closing loopholes used for fraudulent allotments.

According to sources, this period of record-breaking recovery showcases NAB’s intensified drive to curb corruption in both public and private institutions. As a result, the success is widely viewed as a landmark moment that raises future expectations for transparency, oversight, and responsible governance in the country.
