The court also awarded life imprisonment to her mother-in-law, Azra Parveen, and brother-in-law, Ali Haider, along with a fine of Rs500,000 each. Three other accused were acquitted.

Sania Zehra’s body was discovered hanging in her bedroom on July 9, 2024. Initially treated as a suicide, her family buried her without a post-mortem. Her father, Asad Abbas, alleged that her in-laws were responsible, sparking public outrage and media attention.
Authorities later obtained permission to exhume the grave, and forensic analysis confirmed that Sania Zehra died by hanging with no signs of physical assault or injury. The investigation narrowed down the accused from six to three individuals, resulting in convictions for her husband and two family members.
