Putin set for India visit on December 4-5 for talks with Modi

Published on: November 28, 2025 3:55 PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 4-5 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit aims to discuss bilateral ties and key international issues. Officials say intergovernmental and commercial agreements will also be signed during the visit.

Putin will meet Modi for talks and hold a separate meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu. The Kremlin described the visit as “of great importance” for the strategic partnership between the two countries. It highlighted cooperation in political, trade, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, and humanitarian fields.

This will be Putin’s first visit to India since December 2021, just months before he ordered troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Analysts say the visit is closely watched amid ongoing tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

India has been one of the largest buyers of Russian oil, though imports are set to fall in December. Trade sources say the decline comes as refiners seek alternatives to avoid breaching Western sanctions.

The Kremlin and Indian officials say the visit will provide a platform to strengthen diplomatic ties. Both sides are expected to review ongoing cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration in multiple sectors.
