Winter storm hits Michigan, roads covered in snow

Published on: November 30, 2025 9:00 PM

Grand Rapids, Michigan woke to heavy snowfall Sunday morning as a powerful winter storm swept across the Midwest, leaving roads blanketed and slowing traffic across the city and surrounding areas.

Light traffic cautiously moved through snow-covered streets, while strong winds added to difficult driving conditions, prompting local authorities to advise commuters to travel only if necessary and stay alert for updates.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned that a winter-like pattern will persist across much of the US through Tuesday, bringing additional storms, frigid temperatures, and hazardous road conditions for travelers.

Forecasters said the current storm will taper off in the Midwest and Great Lakes region by Sunday, though lingering lake-effect snow may continue in localized areas, causing patchy disruptions.

Another weather system is expected to move from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast on Monday into Tuesday, bringing a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and wintry precipitation to large parts of the country.

Authorities are monitoring the conditions closely, advising residents to prepare for icy roads and potential travel delays, while schools and local agencies remain on alert for emergency response in affected areas.
