QUETTA: Security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist assault on the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Nokundi late Sunday night, killing at least three attackers. According to an FC South spokesman, a group of armed militants launched the coordinated assault on the fort in Nokundi town, beginning with a suicide blast at the main gate.

The spokesman said the attack started when a suicide bomber detonated himself at the entrance, creating an opening for several armed terrorists to storm the compound. He added that the FC Quick Response Force immediately engaged the attackers, killing three militants who managed to enter the headquarters alongside others.

Sources reported that heavy gunfire and multiple explosions echoed from within the fort as security forces countered the assault. The FC spokesman confirmed that the attempt to infiltrate the camp had been thwarted and that a clearance operation was continuing inside the facility. Some unconfirmed reports suggested that as many as six terrorists may have been killed.

In a separate incident, terrorists also ambushed an FC checkpost in the Gurmakan area of Panjgur district later in the evening. Security officials said intense gunfire was exchanged between FC personnel and the attackers, and several militants were reportedly killed during the clash, which continued late into the night.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) later claimed responsibility for both coordinated attacks. The incidents come amid a recent rise in militant activity across Balochistan, where security forces have been conducting operations to dismantle insurgent networks targeting state institutions.

Officials said additional troops had been deployed to both areas and that security around FC installations in the province had been further tightened in response to the threat.
