Netflix announces animated Stranger Things series for 2026

Published on: December 1, 2025 2:32 PM

Stranger Things franchise plans to expand beyond season 5

The Stranger Things universe is set to expand with a new animated series, “Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85”, scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026. The show will explore events in Hawkins during the winter of 1985, bridging the narrative between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original live-action series.

The animated format allows the creators to explore supernatural threats and paranormal mysteries without the limitations of live-action production. Fans can expect familiar characters in new adventures, confronting fresh creatures and eerie phenomena that continue to shape the Hawkins universe.

The Duffer Brothers, who created the original Stranger Things, revealed that animation was one of their earliest ideas for extending the franchise. They highlighted that this format provides “no limits” to creative storytelling, enabling bold and imaginative sequences that were previously difficult to produce on screen.

The show will feature a talented voice cast, including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max. Other characters from the beloved Hawkins group will also return in animated form, ensuring continuity with the original storyline while offering a fresh perspective on familiar faces.

“Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85” marks the first animated entry in the franchise and promises to keep fans engaged after the conclusion of Season 5, offering new mysteries and adventures that expand the world of Hawkins in exciting ways.
