PU buses seized for heavy smoke in Lahore

Published on: December 6, 2025 6:15 PM

The Punjab Environment Department seized two Punjab University buses in Lahore on Friday for releasing excessive smoke on roads. The vehicles were stopped during the ongoing anti-smog campaign. Officials said both buses lacked mandatory environmental fitness certificates.

According to a department spokesperson, the buses were caught emitting visible smoke during routine monitoring. The inspection team immediately impounded the vehicles. Drivers were questioned about the absence of proper documentation.

The action was taken on the directives of the Lahore High Court. Authorities stressed that no public or private institution is exempt from environmental regulations. The enforcement is part of strict measures to combat Lahore’s worsening air quality.

Legal proceedings under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act have been initiated against the buses. Officials warned that continued violations would face harsher penalties in the future. The campaign aims to reduce pollution and protect citizens’ health.

The department urged all vehicle owners to ensure compliance with environmental standards. Officials said the crackdown will continue, targeting all smoke-emitting vehicles across the city. The public was also asked to report violators.
