Ella Wadia’s Paris debut draws worldwide attention

Published on: December 7, 2025 1:12 AM

Ella Wadia, a descendant of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, became the center of international attention this week after participating in the world-famous debutante event, ‘Le Bal’, held in Paris.

The annual ceremony, hosted in a historic Parisian palace, invites only twenty young women each year, all selected from some of the world’s most influential and prominent families.

These debutantes wear custom-designed gowns created by top haute couture fashion houses and mark their formal introduction into the global social scene through dance and high-profile social engagements.

For the occasion, Ella Wadia wore an elegant custom gown crafted by the renowned designer Elie Saab.

Ella Wadia descends from Jinnah’s daughter, Dina Wadia, who married Neville Wadia. Their son, Nusli Wadia, is one of India’s most prominent industrialists and long-time head of the Wadia Group.

Because of this lineage, Ella Wadia is widely described as the granddaughter of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s daughter, placing her among the notable figures of the subcontinent’s historic families.

Founded in 1958, ‘Le Bal’ has grown into one of the world’s most prestigious social events, sometimes referred to as a “teenage Met Gala.” Each year’s participants include young women from royal households, global business dynasties and Hollywood families.

According to event organiser Ophélie Renouard, the goal of ‘Le Bal’ is to highlight the individuality, talent and confidence of young women.

Ella Wadia’s appearance not only captivated readers of South Asian origin in India and Pakistan but also introduced the new generation of the Jinnah family to a broader global audience.
