Lahore confirms plan for two Basant festivals

Published on: December 10, 2025 5:56 PM

Lahore is set to host two Basant festivals next year, as officials have finalized a detailed plan that aims to revive the traditional event with improved management and safety. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, where authorities reviewed preparations for both celebrations. Moreover, the plan focuses on boosting cultural tourism and ensuring that citizens enjoy the festival responsibly.

The first three-day Basant will take place on February 6, 7 and 8, bringing back the city’s signature celebrations with vibrant kites and rooftop gatherings. The second Basant will be organized in the last week of March, allowing residents and visitors to experience the festival twice. Additionally, officials believe that spacing out the events will help manage crowds and support business activity throughout the season.

For the first time in years, Basant will be held across the entire city instead of being limited to a few major locations. This wider approach aims to distribute visitors more evenly, reduce rush in specific areas and create a lively atmosphere in all neighborhoods. Furthermore, the city administration hopes this model will encourage community-level participation and ease traffic pressure.

A complete legal framework for Basant has already been prepared, ensuring that all activities follow strict rules designed to prevent accidents and misuse of materials. Authorities also finalized a plan for organized stalls, where kites and strings will be sold only at designated points under government terms. Consequently, this measure is expected to control hazardous materials and promote safer kite flying.

Work on the security and administrative plan for Basant 2026 is currently in progress, with multiple departments coordinating to maintain law and order during both events. Emergency teams, monitoring units and traffic control measures will also be deployed to ensure smooth celebrations. As a result, officials are confident that the upcoming festivals will be safe, festive and well-managed for everyone.
