Trump to appoint US general for Gaza force

Published on: December 11, 2025 11:30 PM

The Trump administration plans to appoint an American two-star general to command the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza, Axios reported Thursday, citing US and Israeli officials familiar with the plan.

A United Nations Security Council resolution, passed on November 17, authorized a Board of Peace and cooperating countries to establish a temporary international force to stabilize Gaza amid ongoing conflict with Hamas.

US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would lead the ISF and assign a senior general as its commander, ensuring coordination between international and local authorities.

The White House and Pentagon have not publicly commented on the report. President Trump said earlier that an announcement about world leaders joining the Gaza Board of Peace would be made early next year.

The resolution, drafted by the US, outlines that the Board of Peace will act as a transitional administration, coordinating funding and setting a framework for Gaza’s redevelopment according to Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

Experts say the ISF aims to maintain security, support humanitarian operations, and facilitate reconstruction while reducing violence, with the US playing a leading role in both planning and operational command.
