Sharjeel Memon condemns Dhurandhar as anti-Pakistan propaganda

Published on: December 14, 2025 5:19 PM

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon has strongly criticised the Indian film Dhurandhar, calling it a negative portrayal aimed at Pakistan, particularly targeting Karachi’s Lyari area.

Speaking on X, Memon said, “Lyari is not violence — it is culture, peace, talent, and resilience. Next month, Mera Lyari will release, showing the true face of Lyari: peace, prosperity, and pride.”

The upcoming film Mera Lyari is expected to highlight Lyari’s positive aspects, countering portrayals of the area as a war zone and emphasising its cultural richness and community spirit.

Indian movie Dhurandhar is yet another example of negative propaganda by the Indian film industry against Pakistan, especially targeting Lyari. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar has faced controversy in Pakistan due to its depiction of Lyari. The movie features Ranveer Singh as a RAW agent and Arjun Rampal as a Pakistani intelligence officer.

A constitutional petition has been filed in Karachi over the unauthorised use of images of the late Benazir Bhutto, PPP flags, and rally footage. The petition seeks an FIR against the film’s director, producers, and actors.

The film has also drawn objections from the family of Shaheed SP Chaudhry Aslam Khan. His widow, Noreen Aslam, warned of legal action if the movie misrepresents his legacy as a celebrated anti-terrorism officer in Karachi.

The debate around Dhurandhar highlights ongoing concerns in Pakistan over foreign media depictions of the country, with calls for balanced storytelling that respects national figures and local communities.
