The film will follow Tommy as he faces his inner demons and reckons with his legacy, offering fans a continuation of the story they have followed for years. Despite speculation that the movie might mark the end of Murphy’s portrayal, the actor has said he does not feel that his journey as Tommy Shelby is over.

Cillian Murphy wasn’t the first choice to play Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders (2013). Steven Knight originally wanted Jason Statham – until Murphy sent him a text that simply read: “Remember, I’m an actor.”

Speaking to Empire, Murphy shared that he hasn’t fully processed the end of filming. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to process it or think about it until the film comes out, because I believe that a film isn’t finished until people look at it,” he said.

Murphy described the final day of shooting as unexpectedly anticlimactic. “We were on the side of a hill in the Peak District somewhere, in the pissing rain, and we were losing the light. So it was absolutely, completely underwhelming,” he explained.

The actor, who also starred in Oppenheimer, expressed his hope that the character could continue beyond the movie, as he has enjoyed playing Tommy Shelby for over a decade.
