Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan has announced the schedule for the local government elections. According to the announced schedule polling will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
A public notice in this regard will be issued on December 19, 2025, while nomination papers will be submitted from December 22 to December 26, 2025.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan said that holding local government elections is a vital need of the time and the Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan is fully prepared and committed to conducting these elections. He noted that local government elections have not been held for the past 20 years and their conduct will help resolve public issues directly at the grassroots level, enabling citizens to secure their rights.
He further stated that local government elections are a milestone in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting regional development. In any society local bodies play a key role in the democratic system. Through these elections, the public will get an opportunity to directly participate in decision-making and local development at the grassroots level.
The Chief Election Commissioner reaffirmed that the Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan is determined to conduct the elections in a transparent, fair, impartial, and lawful manner. Public circles have highly appreciated the special efforts of Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan (Tamgha-e-Shujaat) Raja Shahbaz Khan regarding the conduct of local government elections.
