The 36-year-old batter was verbally offered the position in October, and the PCB had briefly confirmed it through social media and a press release, which has since been removed.
Insiders suggested that Shan Masood ongoing Test commitments have made it challenging for him to manage dual responsibilities, prompting the board to rethink the appointment. The PCB had initially announced the role following the resignation of Director of International Cricket Operations Usman Wahla, but did not clarify the specific duties for Masood’s position.

According to the earlier PCB advertisement, the role encompasses planning and organising international cricket events, preparing and finalising MoUs for home and overseas tours for Pakistan’s national and age-group teams, and overseeing logistics, budgets, and ICC meetings. The consultant would also manage negotiations, contracts, and itineraries for all FTP tours across formats.
Shan Masood has played 44 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 19 T20Is since making his international debut against South Africa in 2013. He has captained Pakistan in 14 Tests, recording four wins and ten losses, with his most recent tenure ending in a 1-1 series draw against South Africa.

The PCB is expected to make a final decision soon, weighing Masood’s international playing schedule against the strategic needs of the board and the responsibilities of the consultant role.
