Brown university Gunman still at large

Published on: December 18, 2025 4:37 PM

The gunman who killed two students at Brown University remains on the run, with authorities four days into the manhunt still unable to identify or locate the suspect in Providence, Rhode Island.

Residents and students are on edge, with many staying indoors and keeping children home from school. Investigators released security camera footage of a masked man believed to be the shooter but have yet to confirm his identity or motive.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez warned the suspect “could be anywhere,” calling the investigation one of the most intense in the nation. He urged the public to share any information or security footage that may help the search.

Earlier, authorities briefly detained a man in his 20s but released him the same day after confirming he was not involved. Limited surveillance in and around the building has slowed progress, officials said.

Investigators hope residents might recognize the suspect’s body language, gait, or movements in videos captured on residential doorbell cameras. Another unidentified individual seen near the shooter has also been asked to come forward for questioning.

High-profile cases show that perpetrators sometimes evade capture for multiple days. Experts cited previous incidents, including the Boston Marathon bombers, to illustrate how suspects can temporarily hide before being apprehended.
