Excise dept to auction 46,000 unsold number plates

Published on: December 24, 2025 3:07 AM

The Excise Department has sent a summary of 46,600 numbers that were not sold in the online auction.

Excise and Taxation Punjab officials informed the Daily Times that numbers not sold in the e-auction are blocked in the system after a certain period. A new auction will be held to generate revenue from leftover numbers. Rates for leftover numbers have also been allocated so that citizens can buy numbers immediately.

Since the start of the e-auction, 10,400 vehicles, 33,300 motorcycles and 3,000 commercial vehicles have been lifted. So far, 99,900 numbers of 1,782-series of motor numbers have been sold in e-auctions, generating a revenue of Rs 555 million.

In 2029, the auctions of motorcycle numbers collected Rs 18 crore from 233,000 numbers. 290 numbers of 69-series of commercial vehicles were auctioned, generating a revenue of Rs 4,200,000.

DG Excise Omar Sher Chatha has sent a summary to the government for the resale of leftover numbers. The government is expected to earn millions of rupees from the resale of leftover numbers.
