Khawaja Asif labels Imran Khan “200% self-interested”

Published on: December 24, 2025 9:15 PM

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said Imran Khan is not principled and only acts in self-interest. He claimed the PTI founder has no room for genuine negotiations. “Negotiations are give-and-take, but it’s not in Khan’s DNA,” he said.

Asif accused Khan of prioritizing personal gain throughout his life. He added that PTI could progress if it followed internal rules. The minister emphasized that the government repeatedly invited PTI for talks, but the party responded with conditions.

He recalled that four years ago, statements by a PTI minister paralyzed the aviation sector. Yesterday, PIA successfully completed a major bidding process, showing improvement. The government still holds 25% shares in PIA.

Asif said privatization would enhance national airline services. He stressed that the previous four years’ mismanagement risked shutting down operations. Improved management and partial privatization are expected to benefit passengers and efficiency.

The minister’s remarks reflect ongoing political tensions between PTI and the current government over policy and governance issues.
