Jota’s sons to serve as mascots in Liverpool Wolves tribute

Jota's Sons to Lead Mascots at Emotional Liverpool vs Wolves Clash at Anfield

The sons of late Portugal international Diogo Jota are set to take part in an emotional tribute when Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday, according to a report by The Times.

Jota’s two young sons will join the matchday mascots as both clubs come together to honour the forward, who died in a car crash in July alongside his younger brother in northwestern Spain. He was 28. Saturday’s Premier League fixture will mark the first meeting between Liverpool and Wolves since his death.

Jota enjoyed significant spells at both clubs during his career. He first arrived in England with Wolves in 2017 on loan from Atletico Madrid, before making the move permanent a year later. His performances at Molineux helped establish the club in the Premier League and earned him a high-profile transfer to Liverpool in 2020.

At Anfield, Jota became an important figure under Jurgen Klopp, admired for his work rate, versatility and knack for scoring decisive goals. He went on to win the Premier League title with Liverpool earlier this year, adding to his growing list of achievements at club and international level.

Liverpool have not yet publicly confirmed the report, with Reuters noting the club did not respond to a request for comment outside normal UK business hours. However, the planned gesture has already been widely viewed as a poignant moment of remembrance for a player fondly remembered by supporters of both sides.

Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, along with their sons Dinis and Duarte, previously attended the Premier League home openers for both Liverpool and Wolves in August, underscoring the close ties between the family and the two clubs.

Saturday’s match is expected to carry added emotional weight, as players, fans and officials reflect on Jota’s legacy — not just as a prolific forward, but as a respected professional whose impact extended well beyond the pitch.
