A first-semester pharmacy student at the University of Lahore was seriously injured on Monday after suicide attempt from the second floor of the university’s pharmacy department, police said.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran stated that the student, originally from Narowal, had fractured her legs and was hospitalised. He confirmed that there were no severe head injuries.

DIG Kamran said the incident appeared to be a suicide attempt, though the reasons behind it remain unclear. According to preliminary information, the student had been on a phone call roughly 30 minutes before the jump. Police have seized her mobile phone, which is locked, and will examine it after her medical treatment.

The university responded to the incident by suspending on-campus classes, citing student safety. A notice from the registrar’s office stated that all teaching activities scheduled for the day were cancelled and academic activities would shift online starting Tuesday, January 6, until further notice.
Authorities said the university was considering additional safety measures, including installing fences on every floor or deploying staff to monitor students and prevent similar incidents.
This is the second such case in less than three weeks. On December 19, 2025, a 22-year-old Pharm-D student died after jumping from the fourth floor of the same university building. Family members of the deceased said he had faced humiliation over low attendance in one subject, which could have jeopardised his entire semester despite paying the fees.

Police have yet to file a formal report, leaving it up to the student’s parents whether to register a complaint. Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the latest incident and explore steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students on campus.
