Rapper Cardi B briefly came to the defence of her boyfriend, NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs, following assault allegations against him, before deleting the post from social media. Diggs, who plays for the New England Patriots, was charged earlier this week in connection with an alleged incident involving his personal chef.
The 32-year-old athlete still appeared in the Patriots’ season finale on Sunday despite the charges. According to a police report cited by international media, the alleged incident took place on December 2, while the accuser reported the matter to police on December 16.
Following online criticism and speculation, Cardi B responded on X by sharing a screenshot of a text message she claimed was sent by the accuser. The message suggested communication through a mediator and did not mention physical harm, which Cardi B said supported Diggs’ innocence.

In her post, Cardi B stated that the accuser had never told her anything about being physically assaulted. She added that she was confident the allegations were false and said she would allow the legal process to address the matter.
The post quickly drew widespread attention but was later deleted by the rapper without explanation. The removal fuelled further discussion online, though Cardi B has not issued a follow-up statement since taking it down.
Stefon Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation, along with misdemeanor assault and battery. His attorney, David Meier, has strongly denied the allegations, calling them unsubstantiated and claiming the incident never occurred.
Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned in court on January 23. The National Football League has said that his playing status could be reviewed depending on the outcome of the legal proceedings.
