PTI sought help for Imran, Bushra Bibi acquittal in Iddat case

Published on: January 10, 2026 12:34 PM

PTI had sought 'authorities' help in Imran, Bushra acquittal in Iddat case

In the acquittal of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the controversial Iddat case, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reportedly approached government authorities for assistance, sources said. The case, initially pursued by the government, concluded with the acquittal of both parties.

According to informed sources, besides Bushra Bibi, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Barrister Saif, and Senator Mashal Yousafzai were aware of backchannel contacts between the two sides during the proceedings. Both Barrister Gohar and Barrister Saif declined to comment when approached, while Senator Yousafzai shared her perspective on the matter.

Speaking on the case, Senator Yousafzai described it as “extremely bad in taste” and said it was so weak that even influential quarters were divided over it. She highlighted that Bushra Bibi is opposed to any confrontation between Imran Khan and the establishment, emphasizing her belief in resolving disputes through dialogue rather than escalation.

Senator Yousafzai noted that narratives portraying Bushra Bibi as a source of tension were misleading. “In reality, Bushra Bibi believes that all disputes, and even wars, are ultimately settled at the negotiating table,” she said. She further suggested that some individuals close to both Imran Khan and the establishment are fueling tensions to maintain a standoff.

Bushra Bibi is characterized as a proponent of reconciliation and dialogue, not a hardliner, according to Yousafzai. The acquittal of the former prime minister and his spouse marks the conclusion of a high-profile legal battle that had drawn significant public and media attention.
