PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced the auction of special vehicle number plates bearing the names of prominent political figures, including President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan. The initiative, aimed at boosting provincial revenue, is set to attract car owners interested in unique and personalized plates.

According to the provincial Excise and Taxation Minister Fakhr Jahan, the auction will take place on January 27 at Nishtar Hall in Peshawar. Bidding for the fancy and unique number plates will start at Rs1 million, with the highest bidder securing the plate featuring their preferred leader’s name.

“The initiative offers an extraordinary opportunity for vehicle owners to own a number plate that reflects national personalities, while also contributing to the provincial exchequer,” Jahan said. He added that the scheme will be expanded in phases to include more names of national leaders, notable personalities, regions, and communities.

Citizens interested in participating can submit their applications through the Dastak app, with the deadline for registration set for January 26, 2026. Officials said there has already been significant interest from vehicle owners eager to take part in the auction.

The Excise Department expects the move to generate a substantial boost to the province’s revenue, while offering car owners a distinctive symbol of status. This auction reflects a growing trend in Pakistan’s major cities to introduce personalized and vanity vehicle number plates, a practice that has gained popularity among the elite and enthusiasts.

The KP government emphasized that the auction is part of broader efforts to increase provincial revenue streams, modernize the registration process, and engage citizens through innovative initiatives.
