Published on: January 17, 2026 1:15 PM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed hope for peace and stability in Iran. He shared the message during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The Foreign Office confirmed the contact on Saturday.

According to the Foreign Office, the two leaders discussed developments in Iran and the broader region. Dar emphasized the need for calm and restraint. Both sides agreed to continue close diplomatic consultations on mutual interests.

Earlier, Pakistan raised similar concerns at the United Nations Security Council. Ambassador Asim Ahmad described Iran as a brotherly country. He highlighted deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two nations.

Iran has recently faced widespread protests over rising living costs. Authorities imposed internet restrictions during the unrest. Reports said demonstrations subsided after a security crackdown, while the US ruled out intervention.
