Memory of a Killer Review: Patrick Dempsey's Slick Hitman Drama Isn't Memorable Enough - TV Guide

Patrick Dempsey is back on television, delighting fans with his latest role in the new Fox thriller series, Memory of a Killer. Known for his iconic turn in Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey takes on a challenging and multifaceted character, marking a departure from his familiar roles.

In the series, the 60-year-old actor portrays Angelo Flannery, a New York City hitman leading “two totally separate lives.” By day, Angelo is a cold and precise killer, while outside his criminal world, he inhabits the quieter existence of a “sleepy upstate Cooperstown photocopier salesman and father.” The narrative stakes intensify when Angelo is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, threatening to unravel the delicate balance between his dual identities.

Series executive producer Aaron Zelman described the story as “fascinating” and noted the unique character exploration at its heart. “In addition to being a bit of an action thriller, this show is a character exploration,” Zelman said. “What kind of person would be capable of living such a complete double life? We were fascinated by that question.”

The series, which premiered its pilot on Sunday, January 25, comprises ten episodes. Zelman added that the show also presented a fresh challenge for Dempsey, offering him an opportunity to step outside the roles he is traditionally associated with.

Dempsey leads a talented ensemble cast, including Odeya Rush, Michael Imperioli, and Richard Harmon. Fans can expect a mix of high-stakes thriller moments, emotional character depth, and a narrative that probes the psychological complexities of memory, identity, and morality.
