WB President Ajay Banga visits Taxila

The President of the World Bank, Mr. Ajay Banga, visited the Taxila Museum accompanied by Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb.The delegation was warmly received by Punjab’s Minister for Local Government and Community Development, Mr. Zeeshan Rafique.

During the visit, the delegation visited archaeological sites and reviewed initiatives undertaken for the protection of cultural and historical heritage. The participants appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General of Archaeology Punjab in preserving the province’s cultural assets. They were also briefed on the master plan aimed at enhancing the museum and its surroundings, integrating heritage conservation with sustainable urban development.

Banga praised the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for its commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage. The delegation also commended Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb for promoting culture and heritage as central elements of provincial policy.

Secretary Tourism, Mr. Socrat Aman Rana, provided an overview of the objectives, scope, and long-term impact of the Taxila Heritage City Master Plan. Director General Archaeology Punjab, Mr. Zaheer Abbas Malik, highlighted the measures implemented for heritage preservation in line with international standards, community engagement, and interdepartmental coordination.
