Islamabad hosted the inaugural Indus AI Week 2026, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighting nationwide efforts to promote artificial intelligence and digital reforms aimed at preparing Pakistan’s youth for the modern economy.

The prime minister cited key achievements such as the launch of Lahore’s first Safe City project and Pakistan’s first IT university. He emphasized that digitization initiatives like e-stamp papers and land record reforms have increased transparency and reduced corruption.

He noted that the Federal Board of Revenue’s full digitization has enhanced accountability in tax collection, while modern scanners and equipment at ports have significantly curbed smuggling, strengthening the nation’s economic and trade systems.

Highlighting youth development, PM Shehbaz said nearly 60 percent of Pakistan’s population comprises young people who must acquire modern knowledge and skills to compete globally. AI education has now been introduced in schools across federal territories, AJK, GB, and Balochistan.
