5.6-magnitude earthquake hits near Khuzdar, tremors felt across Sindh & Balochistan

Published on: February 13, 2026 1:05 PM

ISLAMABAD: A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck 86 kilometres northeast of Khuzdar in Balochistan on Friday morning, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported. The quake occurred at 6:30 am at a depth of 13 km, according to the PMD’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre.

The tremors were felt across multiple districts in Sindh, including Sukkur, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and Dadu. Balochistan districts such as Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Nasirabad also reported noticeable shaking, although no immediate reports of casualties or major damage have emerged.

This follows a series of recent seismic events in Pakistan. In January, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake affected parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Peshawar, and surrounding areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In October 2025, Quetta experienced a 5.0-magnitude quake.

Pakistan is located at the convergence of three major tectonic plates — the Arabian, Euro-Asian, and Indian plates — which form five seismic zones across the country. The intersection of multiple fault lines makes the region prone to frequent earthquakes.

Authorities and residents in affected areas have been urged to stay alert, follow safety protocols, and report any damage or injuries to local authorities.
