Deadly clashes near US consulate leave six dead in Karachi

Published on: March 1, 2026 2:23 PM

At least six people died and 20 others sustained injuries after violent clashes erupted near the United States Consulate General Karachi on Mai Kolachi Road. A hospital official confirmed the casualties as protesters confronted law enforcement personnel in the area. The unrest followed reports of the assassination of Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israel strikes. Consequently, tensions escalated quickly and spread through nearby streets.

According to emergency responders, security forces used tear gas and baton charges to disperse the crowd and restore order. Demonstrators gathered in large numbers, expressing anger over international developments that triggered the protest. As the situation intensified, clashes broke out between protesters and police units deployed at the scene. Therefore, authorities reinforced their presence to prevent further violence.

Officials temporarily closed roads connecting Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi to control movement and reduce congestion around the consulate. Traffic from Jinnah Bridge was diverted toward I.I. Chundrigar Road as part of emergency traffic management measures. These steps aimed to secure the area and ensure smooth access for rescue teams. Meanwhile, commuters faced delays as security restrictions remained in place.

Rescue services transported the injured to nearby hospitals, where medical staff treated victims for various injuries. Hospital sources confirmed that emergency wards remained on alert due to the number of casualties. Additionally, authorities coordinated with city administrations to monitor developments closely. As a result, health facilities prepared additional resources in case of further incidents.

Officials urged residents to avoid the consulate vicinity until authorities fully restore calm and reopen closed routes. Security forces continued patrolling the area to maintain public order and prevent renewed gatherings. In addition, law enforcement agencies reviewed surveillance footage to assess the sequence of events. Ultimately, the incident highlights the impact of international developments on local stability and public safety.
