Karachi roads closed ahead of possible protests

Published on: March 2, 2026 2:31 PM

Karachi authorities have closed major roads as a precautionary measure ahead of potential protests following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in US-Iran airstrikes. Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety and preventing traffic congestion during possible demonstrations. Law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring the situation, and alternative routes have been prepared to manage commuter movement efficiently. The closures reflect heightened security concerns in the city.

Traffic police reported that both roads leading to and from Sultanabad Traffic Section towards Mai Kolachi have been blocked. Similarly, the route from MT Khan Road towards Jinnah Bridge and the road from PIDC to Jinnah Bridge are also closed for all vehicles. Authorities have set up barricades and checkpoints to ensure smooth diversion and prevent unauthorized access. Commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance to avoid delays.

Traffic coming from Jinnah Bridge is being redirected towards I.I. Chundrigar Road, while vehicles arriving from Boat Basin are instructed to make a U-turn at Mai Kolachi Phatak. Traffic from PIDC is also being sent back from Park Cut to maintain flow and avoid congestion. These diversions are part of a coordinated plan to ensure the safety of citizens during potential unrest. Authorities are urging drivers to follow instructions and cooperate with traffic personnel.

Additionally, Shahrah-e-Faisal has been barricaded between FTC and Metro Pole. The section near FTC has been closed since the previous day, with vehicles being redirected towards Saddar via Gorakhpur Cemetery for U-turns. Officials stressed that these measures are temporary but necessary to manage public safety and maintain order on key city roads. Alternative routes have been communicated through local traffic alerts.

Authorities have called for citizens to remain calm and stay updated on traffic advisories. Security personnel are on high alert in areas prone to gatherings or demonstrations, while city administration coordinates with traffic police to manage any emerging situations. Public cooperation is crucial to prevent disruptions and ensure smooth vehicular movement across Karachi during this sensitive period.

Law enforcement confirmed that these road closures will remain in effect until the situation stabilizes. Officials continue to assess protest risks and are prepared to extend or adjust closures if necessary. Residents are advised to use alternate routes, follow official guidance, and stay informed through local updates until normal traffic conditions resume.
