ATC extends bail of Fawad, Swati, Musarrat and Jamshed Cheema in May 9 cases

Published on: March 14, 2026 1:03 AM

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday extended the interim pre-arrest bail of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry until April 16 in five cases linked to the May 9 riots, while directing his counsel to complete arguments on the bail petitions.

Duty Judge Arshad Javed heard the matter, where Fawad Chaudhry appeared after the expiry of his previous interim bail.

Following the hearing, the court extended his interim bail and sought complete arguments from his lawyer at the next hearing.

According to the prosecution, Fawad Chaudhry faces allegations of provoking party workers to engage in arson and violent protest activities during the May 9 unrest. He has secured interim bail in three cases relating to the burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House.

Fawad Chaudhry has also obtained interim bail in a case registered over the attack at Club Chowk near the GOR Gate, as well as another case involving the torching of police vehicles in Mughalpura.

An anti-terrorism court extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Azam Swati until April 3 in multiple May 9 cases, including those related to attacks on Jinnah House, Askari Tower and the torching of Shadman Police Station.

Duty Judge Arshad Javed heard the bail petitions at the anti-terrorism court, where Azam Swati appeared to mark his attendance following the expiry of his previous interim bail period.

The court extended his relief till April 3 and directed his counsel to complete arguments on the bail applications at the next hearing.

Azam Swati has sought pre-arrest bail in several cases linked to the May 9 violence, including the Jinnah House and Askari Tower attack cases. PTI leaders in these cases face allegations of sedition and inciting party workers to commit arson and violent acts during the unrest.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and her husband Jamshed Iqbal Cheema until April 3 in multiple May 9 riot cases, including those related to attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.

The duty judge of the anti-terrorism court heard the bail petitions, during which both PTI leaders appeared before the court after the expiry of their previous interim bail period and marked their attendance.

The court subsequently extended their interim relief till April 3 and directed their counsel to complete arguments on the bail applications at the next hearing.

Musarrat Jamshed Cheema has filed interim bail petitions in eight cases, including the Jinnah House and Askari Tower attack cases, while Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has sought pre-arrest bail in four separate cases linked to the May 9 violence.
