Trump seeks to end Iran conflict within six weeks

Published on: March 26, 2026 3:46 PM

U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly aiming to resolve the conflict with Iran within four to six weeks, citing other pressing national priorities. The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump does not want the war to become prolonged. The decision could affect U.S. foreign policy, regional stability, and global oil markets.

According to the newspaper, Trump informed close advisers that he views the conflict as reaching its final stage. He emphasized that the war is diverting attention from domestic issues, including midterm elections and immigration policies. The White House reportedly scheduled the Beijing summit in May based on the expectation that hostilities would end beforehand.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials indicate that America remains open to negotiations while also reinforcing military presence in the Middle East. Trump has considered potential access to Iranian oil as a bargaining point but has not formulated concrete plans. Analysts note that the president faces no simple path to ending the conflict, and peace talks remain in early stages.

The Washington Post also outlined possible U.S. proposals for a ceasefire. These include easing sanctions if Iran removes enriched uranium, enforcing strict limits on ballistic missile programs, and halting support to armed groups such as Hezbollah, Houthis, and Hamas. Officials stressed the sensitivity of these proposals and declined to release full details.

Additionally, reports suggest that Pakistan may host indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran. Iran has confirmed it is engaging in discussions with its neighbors. Both U.S. and Iranian officials continue behind-the-scenes diplomacy, though no formal agreement has yet been announced.
